What is the Egoless State?

There are different states of consciousness. One is the ordinary waking state of consciousness that is present when we are awake. Although we are unaware of our existence during sleep, the consciousness is still present in the form of dreams alternating with a deep sleep state. This consciousness is dependent on the normal functioning of the brain. When the brain is injured by head injury, we become unconscious which is called coma in medical jargon. Besides trauma, overdose of drugs or infection of the brain may induce a state of coma. During coma, we are unconscious of our surroundings.
However these states of consciousness are dependent on the brain. Scientists have known that in normal individuals, we only use 10% of our brain. There are other functions of the brain which only few individuals possess. These are called psychic abilities such as telekinesis, telepathy, clairvoyance, bilocation, levitation clairvoyance, etc.Saints, and advance yogis are able to have these psychic abilities. However,a sincere practitioner of the mystic path will not exhibit or use these abilities as these are considered a hindrance to one’s spiritual progress.
Apart from this ordinary state of consciousness, there is another state of consciousness that is not dependent on a brain. This is called the Turiya or fourth state of consciousness. This is actually the consciousness of our higher Self. After death of the body, it is this consciousness which is still functioning even though the body is dead.
When one is in the egoless state, it is this fourth state of consciousness which one is aware of. The egoless state of consciousness can be attained when one is in the Nirvikalpa state of Samadhi. No one can be in this state for more than 6 weeks because when one is in this state, one completely oblivious of the body. Hence the person being totally oblivious of the body one will not eat or drink or even move. When one is in the Turiya state, one is only aware of a state of bliss and the peace that passeth all understanding.

be in this world but not of this world

BE IN THIS WORLD BUT NOT OF THIS WORLD

Jesus said this but living this teaching is essential in order to lead a spiritual life. The meaning of this teaching is not only profound but difficult to practice.
The basic ingredient to life this world is detachment from worldly things, family, and our ego. To be egoless is the most difficult thing to do. In fact the mind can never comprehend what it is like to be egoless.

Religion and Spirituality

RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY February 16 3.30am

There is a difference being spirituality and religion. To be religious, one has to belong to a religion. When this happens, you become bonded to the religion of your choice. You have to subscribe to the doctrines and dogmas of the faith and inevitably you become a believer of that religious faith. By becoming a believer, your mind will be indoctrinated by the doctrines and dogmas and your mind no longer is open to other religious beliefs. This is what brain washing is about. There is no longer any freedom of the mind to accept any other religious faiths. This becomes bondage. In order to be a free soul, the mind must be deconditioned of all beliefs, dogmas and doctrines. Freedom from all preconceived ideas of whether it is religious or woldly matters,is needed for the mind to experienced the Higher Self.
This conditioning of the mind is analogous to a computer. The computer works only when it receives programmes from the owner. Without these programmes, the computer is useless .Similarly; our brain is like a computer. The programmes the mind has, results from the accumulations over the years of all sorts of knowledge, concepts, likes and dislikes, phobias, prejudices etc over a lifetime. The brain is therefore filled with all sorts of information that ultimately determines his character and personality. This causes bigotry, hatred, intolerance, worries and all sorts of sufferings which determine the personality and character of a person.
Religion is man made while spirituality predates all religions. Every religion claims that their religion is the only one that is true and that their God is the only one true God. Salvation can only be obtained by believing in that particular religious faith. This is certainly not universal.
Many wars, conflicts and violence have been committed as a result of differences in the various religious faiths.Ironically all religions teaches love and peace.
A spiritual person is completely detached from all these religious faiths. Consequently, such a person have complete freedom to pursue the true path to Self realization. The main purpose of meditation is therefore able to still the mind without being conditioned by knowledge of any kind. The still mind has the freedom to experience Self realization.

Search for Happiness

How to be Happy

Everyone seek happiness. Many think that money can buy happiness. The reason for this is that money can satisfy many of our desires in life such as buying a car, condominium, and all the other worldly pleasures. It is the satisfaction of desires that brings happiness and suffering is caused by not having these desires satisfied.Once a desire is satisfied, the happiness disappears and the next desire that arises need to be met before one can attain the happy state. Worldly happiness is therefore transitory. Happiness and unhappiness are the opposite side of the same coin.
True happiness is a state of bliss which can only result when the higher Self is in command of our mind. Higher Self being the Ultimate Reality ,is Consciousness and Bliss. Truth is described as Existence(Sat) Knowledge (chit) and Bliss (ananda). The word Satchitananda is a good word for God because it avoids all preconceptions of our knowledge of God..
Although we can speak about Truth as being Bliss and Consciousness, that is as far as we can go. Truth has to be experienced but not spoken about .To realize Truth, is called Self Realization or God Realization..
The attainment of Self Realization has been the goal of every spiritual person. Many have tread the various paths to obtain this state. The most common way is meditation.
Self Realization however cannot be attained by intellectualization. It will come to a person spontaneously and at any moment that is least expected. A person will have to first practice the three things in life. They are lead a moral life, practice concentration and attain wisdom.(not of the worldly kind)

Living in a matrix

Whenever a person is dead, we say that his soul has gone to heaven. However we still identify the soul with the ego.Hence our attachment to our ego is so strong that it prevents us from knowing who we really are.If the ego is not permanent, since death extinguish the ego, the question is who then is the soul.As no one has ever seen the soul, it remains an enigma.Yet the soul is the ultimate reality.
We are living in a matrix , a world created by the mind and ego. This world is an illusion since it is not permanent and subject to change. In this world, there is duality, time ,space and impermanence. In the Ultimate Reality there is none of these attributes.
We know that in sleep or if we become unconscious, we are unaware of our ego and the world. What we encounter in sleep is that we have dreams. The life that we are living now is a dream also.In our ordinary state of consciousness, the ego is the subject and the world is the object. However in the Ultimate Reality, there is neither subject or object.
The mind and ego tells us that this world is real.Hence even at death we are not prepared to let go of the ego.The ego has become the soul at death. We console ourselves that we still exists after death and that the ego has gone to heaven. The soul however is not identical to the ego.
What then is the soul?It is our higher Self which is made in the image of God.Hence the higher Self and God are one and the same.It is difficult to comprehend this because of our condtioning through life,.We are told that God is a higher being who dispenses judgenment on whether we go to hell or heaven after death.
God is incomprehensible to the mind because God is not a concept. The mind can only know things that are conceptual.Esoteric matters such as the soul or God being nonconceptual cannot be comprehended by the mind. The mind being a relative reality, cannot conceive what is Ultimate Reality.(5/2/2007)

Who Are You

Who Are You?

How many people knows who they really are? When asked this question mnay would reply that they are so and so and that they are doctors, teachers etc. This only answers who your ego is but not the real you. What happens to a dead person? He is cremated or buried and become dust. The ego no longer exists.Yet the whole world seems to be obsessed with wealth, pride, power, possessions, family and so on.The ego or the self is not permanent and hence cannot be the true person of who you really are.
All our dead relatives are nothing but distant memories lodged in our brain. It is the mind that is playing tricks on us, making us believe that our ego and this world is real.We can say we are living in relative reality but not the ultimate Reality which the scirptures call the Truth, God, Cosmic Consciouness or Truth.
To attain inner peace and bliss seek the real you.No one can know the answer except yourself.
The first thing to do is to decondition your mind of all predjudices, concepts, beliefs etc.As long as the mind is cluttered with all these conditioning which we acquire from the time we are born, we will never be free to explore the real you. 4/2/2007
